Okay but really guys I was just sitting here and thinking about it. This show started 8 years ago. It’s a long running show. I haven’t been without Supernatural in my life since I was 13 and I just turned 21. I’ve grown up with it. And we’ve done so much. The show was almost cancelled. It was moved stations because we fought so hard. It’s continued and thrived because of us. We kept watching and kept this show going long enough for Jared Padalecki to meet the love of his life and start a family. Long enough for Jensen and Jared to really become brothers. Long enough for all of us to literally become a family.
And I think it’s really appropriate that we’ve been called the SPN Family. I’ve seen this fandom hate and rage, of course. But I’ve seen this fandom save lives, get friends out of dangerous home situations, fundraise to keep fans in their homes. The relationship that we’ve formed with this show is incredible. The show’s changed a lot of our lives, we’ve changed a lot of the actors’ lives. We’ve campaigned and made our voices heard and turned the show into academic papers and meta and met the actors and we’ve just… We’ve done so much.
We’ve devoted so much time and so more effort and we’ve made the actors and their families feel so welcomed. We’ve donated to their charities and developed such a great relationship with them via twitter and conventions. Everyone whose been on the show has been so welcomed. I mean, Richard Speight Jr. was on four episodes and look at how involved he is? Misha’s created entire charities and complicated scavenger hunts and there’s so much interaction and so much love in this fandom.
Maybe it’s just because I’m feeling particularly emotional, but being nominated for best fan base is just really honoring. For all the time we’ve spent, all the money we’ve spent, all the emotional breakdowns we’ve suffered at the hands of those involved with Supernatural, we’ve been recognized. So whether we win for best fan following tonight at the PCA’s or not, we know that we deserve it. We know that they know we deserve it. I love you all. And I’m proud to be part of the SPN Family.
